SANGEETA BANDYOPADHYAY

Daughter of one of the most famous and sought-after tabla masters in Calcutta, Sankha Chatterji, Sangita began to study music at the age of four under the guidance of her uncle Sri Subodh Chatterji and Pandit Chinmoy Lahiri.

She continued her studies under the late lamented Munawar Ali Khan, son of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, the doyen of Patiala gharana, and Sri Kamal Bandyopadhyay, himself the pupil of Amir Khan, one of the legends of Indian singing.

Sangita started to perform in concert when still very young, appearing for the first time on European stages at the age of just thirteen.
She has made several recordings of khayals, thumris and bhajans and regularly appears on Doordarshan India (the Indian state television channel) and All India Radio.
