Zakir Hussain son of the legendary tabla maestro Ustad Allah Rakha Khan, is internationally recognised as India's leading tabla player, and has performed with all of India's greatest musicians.

As a percussion virtuoso, Zakir has also collaborated with western musicians in classical, rock and fusion traditions.
A classical tabla player of the highest order, Zakir's contribution to world music has been unique, with many historic collaborations.

His playing, consistently brilliant and exciting, is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, grounded in formidable knowledge and technique.

In 1988, he became the youngest percussionist ever to be awarded with the title "Padma Shri" by the Indian government, a title given to citiziens of merit.
